I was trying to decide what I should post about today and decided I’d share a few verses that I always find encouraging–whether I’m in a nerve-wracking situation or just feel overwhelmed by the wickedness that I see in the world.
No matter what we’re facing, God’s word always holds the encouragement and strength we need. 🙂 We just need to take the time to look (and often God will bring just the right verses to our attention at just the right time)!
I didn’t have to think long to decide what verses I wanted to use for today’s post. 😀 These three special verses immediately came to my mind:
- These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John16:33
- Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength. Isaiah 26:4
- Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6.
Each of these three verses is special to me for different reasons and in different situations. But now that I’ve stuck them all down one after the other for this post, they seem to compliment each other so well. It’s like a lovely dose of encouragement not to fear but to trust! You could summarize them like this:
Look to God for peace. He is the conqueror.
Trust Him. He is our everlasting source of strength.
Don’t be anxious. God hears our prayers.
It makes me marvel at how blessed we are! As children of God, we have peace, assurance, and purpose that can come only from following the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Now lets take a dive into these verses a little more, and I’ll also explain why they’re special to me. 🙂
These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33
Whenever it seems that evil reigns, this verse directs my eyes to God—the One who has already won the victory. It’s a reminder to take heart. We can be of good cheer, because God has overcome the world–even though there’s hardship and trials in the present. As believers, we know that no matter what happens in the world, no matter the tribulation or persecution that we may face, our future is sure. And that knowledge alone brings perfect peace!
Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength. Isaiah 26:4
I used to say this verse to myself a lot whenever I felt nervous or unsure. It’s definitely a verse that is well and truly stuck in my memory! 😉 The reminder to trust God is something we all need constantly. And what a relief it is not to have to rely on ourselves for strength to face each moment. We have a source of strength that goes way beyond any human capablities.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6
And finally, this verse. My mum wrote it out on an index card and gave it to me to memorize many years ago when I was going through a particularly hard season in life. It’s one that has stuck with me ever since. Don’t fret but pray! God hears our prayers and sees what we’re facing. And that is certainly a reason to come before Him with thanksgiving.
I hope that you’ve found this post an encouragement! It was a blessing for me to think about these three verses all together, rather than always thinking of them individually. 😀 It’s certainly been a dose of encouragement for me (and hopefully for you too)!
Now it’s your turn to share something with me! 🌺🌻🌺 What is one of your “go-to” Scripture verses (and if you want to, you can also tell me why it’s a favourite)?
