The Story Behind the Story!

Jayne’s Endeavour has certainly been a long time in the writing (just ask my family and friends!). Over eight or nine years have passed since I first got the snippet of an idea one night and scribbled it in my diary. It wasn’t much of an idea (though I probably still have it somewhere!), but I knew I wanted to include close sister relationships and other endearing qualities of fiction without all the other things that so often come along with them!

From there, my idea grew until it turned into a 276 page novel! I had so much to learn between that first snippet of a idea and today! It’s been a long journey, but one that I’m super glad God lead me on! πŸ˜€

So how did I get started? Sit back and let me tell you the tale . . .

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved reading! Not just any old books, but exciting ones filled with adventure. But alas! All too often the characters in those novels weren’t very good role models πŸ™ And that’s when God gave me a desire to do something about it.

The only problem was that I felt ill-equipped and overwhelmed at the thought of putting sooo many words together. How did you get the thoughts from your mind onto a page? How did you structure a novel effectively? How did you create believable characters? I decided I needed some help! πŸ˜‰ Some sort of guide to point me in the right direction and help me to avoid basic writing mistakes from the start!

My desire is to write books that are historical, God-honouring, Australian, and intriguing. Novels that are both exciting and encouraging!

So I went searching for a writing course. At the age of eighteen, I started a multi-year course on novel writing and publishing. By the end of it, I had completed the first draft of my novel! πŸ˜€ I’d actually done it!!

Little did I know that the journey was just beginning . . . I still had a LOT to learn about editing and polishing my first draft. So I set to work again and started editing, and learning, and editing some more! Finally, I decided to enlist some more help in the form of an editor. πŸ˜€ And so I learnt and edited some more!

Now all these years down the track, I can say that I’ve learnt heaps from the writing process–both from the story itself and from the actual act of writing it. The whole experience has been a great lesson in diligence, perseverance and patience! I’ve also discovered time and time again how awesome and faithful God is! Don’t ever doubt your heavenly Father! πŸ™‚ He is able to (and does) provide amazingly!

I hope and pray that Jayne’s Endeavour is a blessing to many (maybe even you!). If you do get an opportunity to read it, feel free to drop me a message. I’d be so thrilled to know if you’d been encouraged by my writing!

Thanks for stopping by to be part of release day!! πŸ˜€

May your faith continue to grow!
~Lauren

Oh Lauren! I loved this post — reading of the faithfulness of God as He brought you along this journey! I’ll tell you, my favourite part of this story was the closeness of the three sisters. It was such a precious bond they all had for each other, and it was a blessing to read about =)

Thank you for stopping by, Kaitlyn! Your comment was such a blessing to me! πŸ˜€ That so encouraging that you loved the closeness of the sisters! Really that’s how this whole story started out–with that one idea! So I’m glad that I was able to portray their relationships in that way and that it was a blessing to you! Our God is an awesome God! πŸ˜€

Oh! And I’m very much looking forward to reading your post! πŸ˜‰

Anything God helps to bring about is worth the long wait.

Amen about roll models! Especially feminine ones ( I always felt like there were much better boy role models than for girls)

Yes! I love historical fiction, but I don’t read it very often because of the role model issue. So glad you recognized the need and stepped in to fill it. πŸ™‚

Haha! And yes, the “Exciting” tag definitely fits this post! πŸ˜‰

Enjoyed reading this post. It’s always fun to learn more about an author, their book and finding a book that you put on your TBR list. Waiting for the opportunity to read it is the hard part.
