I came across a lovely hymn I’d like to share with you, called “Lord, Write Your Truth.” It’s a “modern” hymn as I think it was only released in 2018! 🙂 And the man who wrote it is still alive unlike a lot of the hymns we sing 😉
Great Author of the universe,
You spoke and all was made;
Throughout the earth Your steadfast love
And power are displayed.
Your works are done in faithfulness,
Your words are always true;
My heart is full of rev’rent fear—
I stand in awe of You!
Please open now my eager eyes
To wonders You impart,
And write Your everlasting Truth
Upon my ready heart!
Your perfect law revives the soul
And makes the simple wise;
It checks the bent of fallen hearts,
Enlight’ning sin-dimmed eyes.
O Lord, Your rules are ever true
And altogether right;
I treasure them far more than gold—
Your law is my delight!
Your faithfulness and love endure
Through ev’ry passing age;
Your righteousness ordained the Truth
You wrote on ev’ry page.
Forevermore Your holy Word
Is firmly fixed on high;
Now, fix my heart to walk within
The wisdom You supply!

I love how the verses are all based on Psalms! We should all desire God’s truths to be written on our hearts, flowing into our actions, words, and thoughts. 😀 I’d really encourage you to give the song a try! It’s a simple tune to catch onto and has an easy range of notes too! 😉
I’m so, so glad that God made music! It’s definitely a powerful tool and conveys a lot of emotion and depth! It’s such a gift when used as God intended!
As you might already know, I play the piano and harp! 😀 And I couldn’t keep my love of music from flowing into my characters and story-line in Jayne’s Endeavour! In this excerpt, Jayne and her sisters are singing some hymns around the fire on a wintry evening . . .
The words of the second verse—Thou my great Father, I Thy true son—went straight to Jayne’s heart. They reminded her of something else, but she couldn’t think what. An aching desire to comprehend the meaning thumped through her body.
As Jayne sang the last words of the hymn, she meant them with all of her being. “Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision, O Ruler of all.” Her voice trailed off, and she realised why the words of the second verse had been so familiar. They reminded her of the verse Jed had read on that cold and dreary night. What had it been? Jayne closed her eyes, trying to picture the verse in her mind. Finally she gave in with a shake of her head. When everyone left, she would look it up again.Chapter 8, Jayne’s Endeavour
Can’t wait to share the rest of the story with you! 😀
